Pooch

I was at the park, feeling quite content from my jog/brisk walk in the morning, when a black dog started walking in my direction.

I was sitting on the ground at the time when it plopped a tennis ball covered with slobber about a metre from me, settled itself in front of me and waited.

I looked from the tennis ball to the dog to its owners who were standing in the distance and back to the ball again.

Oh what was I to do. I gave in, picked up the ball in all its gushiness and threw it as far as I could, which was not very far at all since the dog came running back in seconds.

But by then, its friend, a brown furry dog decided to appoint me as its new best friend and was excitedly trying to win all of my affection. When it finally calmed down, it sat down closely beside me. So cute.

As I walked away after the dogs went back to their owners, I realised the significance of what had just happened.

The black dog, although I was a complete stranger to it, braved itself to approach me all for the thrill of catching a ball. If only we are as carefree to put ourselves second and our heart's desires first.

And also be like furry brown. To be brave enough to show our affections and attention, even to a stranger or someone who may come across as hostile. And be able to enjoy a quiet moment when we have used up most of our energy in trying.

Well, we could. I suppose we could.

Here's to showing some love.
