If you thought the stares were going to get better, you sure thought wrong. Being on a cruise traveling from Singapore to Malaysia and back to Singapore, what could I possibly expect but to have every asian from every continent on there.
The best stare award has to go to the lady from this morning. She did not only stare when she was walking past but she continued to do so by momentarily stopping to have a good stare at the boot on my leg. I gave in and lapsed back to mannequin mode again.
But what made my blood boil was the inability for asians to queue up. There I was waiting for my turn at the lifts on the cruise when people decided to walk in front of me and catch the lift that I have been waiting for. Not once or twice but thrice if not more times.
The bomb aka my patience exploded yesterday when it happened far too many times. I told off a couple who decided to place themselves right in front of the door, before me. Wrong move, wrong time. I was not going to stand by and watch without battling it out for the next one. I apologised beforehand but declared that we (my family and I) have had three turns of lifts taken right before us. Whatever I said after that, I fail to recall but they got the hint.
As absurdly angry as I was, I was still not going to rush in front of them, crutches or not. I let them through first, made sure my family was all accommodated for and finally allowed myself to go on the lift. Then I took a deep breath and let all the frustration out in silence.
The cruise itself was good. I enjoyed the meals thoroughly and the service was considerably good. The views were picturesque and we had two good sessions of karaoke with cocktails and mocktails.
No complains about the cruise.
Just the asians.
Oh well, here's to being one.
