Food for thought

There are so many cooking shows and while it is great for tv ratings and food enthusiasts, why is there not a cooking show that promotes cooking for those who are less fortunate?

Why do we find it a need to satisfy the tastebuds of the rich when the poor have nothing on their plates?

What happens to all these great food that are cooked? People who travel for food shows. Can they not host it at a village where the food can be distributed to the people? For people who struggle to put food on the table?

A show that teaches people to cook with the resources that they have. A practical, easy-to-follow show.

What ever happened to sharing the love?

This is not an accusation but rather, a self reflection. A question to myself. Why find a need to wine and dine in expensive restaurants when you can use the money to buy groceries to cook at a soup kitchen?

To travel to a third world country and help make a difference, no matter how small it might be.

One of my workmates traveled to Cambodia to help build houses. And also made donations while he was there. How many of us can say that we have done that? Not I.

I believe that food connects people. It is instilled so intricately in cultures. So why not connect the world, to bridge the poor and the rich, through a channel of food?

It is time to make a change. To move forward, we must not only think for ourselves but for our brothers and sisters in need.

Here's to taking the first step.
