Naaasty

It is difficult being around people who are uncomfortable with themselves. You [almost] have to pull yourself back and put your emotions aside. And take whatever they say with a pinch of salt.

They have a tendency to make you feel bad for doing well. Downplay themselves. Assume that you are in a better position. Ask leading questions. Dwell in self-pity. Are unable to see past the problem. And are easily irritable.

At times like that, you really need to question your role in the "cry baby" act. Do you help? Or do you not bother?

I have found that the best medicine is to be straight with them. Suggest solutions but give them enough room to make their own decisions. And know when your role there is to listen.

Listen to their soppy stories.

Listen to MY soppy story.

[insert cruel laughter here]

Self criticism can go shove it.

Here's to the 39th Monday of the year.
