Dry heat

"Chinese food makes me sluggish".

What kind of a Chinese person says that about their own food?

Right?

But it is true. I get so sleepy after a feast of Chinese noodles topped with small but fiery [cut up] chillies with lemon and soya sauce. I had char kuey teow for lunch today.

I ♥ kuey teow.

The intentionally burnt parts are so yummy.

My sister and I are planning to travel together for two weeks in the States. And then I will be heading off on my own and venturing out to the east coast for good food, wine, scenery, fun and of course, music. I have three places noted down so far - New Orleans, Miami and New York as my top destinations.

And on the west coast [I really hope I am making the right references here], we have decided to start our trip in Los Angeles and drive up to Las Vegas where we will stay for a couple of days. Venture out to the Grand Canyon. And then drive to the Yosemite National Park. Our last stop will be in San Francisco.

So as part of my savings regime for this big trip, I have removed drinking as one of my past times and have been bringing home cooked food for lunch. I now shop for groceries twice a week and only buy what I need.

I realised just two weeks ago that I have been eating beyond my body's needs simply because I cannot stand the sight of food being wasted. As one of seven [kids], I have grown used to setting plenty of food on the table. So when I cook, I cook a lot. But because I get bored of the same kind of food easily, I end up not cooking because I get sick of my own food.

Small but fitting portions so I have learned. And because it is summer, I have been enjoying making salads, cutting up delicious local Western Australian [two for $9] mangoes and yoghurt in small tub sizes. All enjoyed separately of course.

Clothes. I have a habit of shopping for things on impulse [firstly for the thrill of it and secondly because I can] and clothes shopping is possibly one of my favourites. But after going for the swap meet and realising how much junk I collect, I am going to try something different. I am going to visit the op shops whenever I feel a need to shop. It will either put me off or force me to choose wisely.

As said by one of my very fashionable friends over the weekend that just passed and I quote: "My best clothing items have only costed a dollar or two".

I could not mask my surprise. It would not have been me had I not asked: "...but it's dirty no?" and to which she replied casually that she washes them. Washing machine wash. Then they are clean and fit to wear.

It will take me some time to adjust to this idea. And looking at my bank balance [which has serious eating disorders], I hope this new habit happens sooner.

The clock is ticking close to midnight once again.

It is the Perth heat I say which is throwing me off my routine.

Here's to the 26 year old who thinks she is a nana.
