So here I am, finally on the plane to New York via Los Angeles. The experience of preparing for the trip has been quite an unexpected anti climax. I felt neither joyous nor excited about it. The reality of going on this trip had not even sunk in until I checked in for my flight yesterday. And it is slowly becoming a reality as I travel further from home.
I was so caught up in work. In spending time with my boo [oh which I would not change]. I was in Perth time. Oblivious to the journey that I had planned in front of me.
And being the planner that I am, I have scheduled almost every hour that I am in New York. From the tours to the places to go to places of eatery to the shopping places where I will pick out my new wardrobe. Comprehensive would be the best way to describe the travel plan thus far.
As we speak, I feel like I am finding myself again. I have not gone so long on my own. It is refreshing yet scary at the same time.
I recall asking myself [on the plane from Perth to Sydney] what I was thinking planning a solo trip to New York. Who does that? *insert chuckles here*
It is a brave thing to do. Now I know that I too, can be [and am] brave. Unbeknowst to what lies ahead amidst all the planning.
In saying that, I have had a great start to the trip. Being given aisle seats, sleeping through the flight, indulging myself in the Qantas lounge which had cooked breakfast, free flow of drinks and a great view of the airway strip.
Oh, did I mention that the seat next to me is empty? *insert palmfuls of gratitude here*
I am missing the man who makes my cheeks go red when he tells me he loves me.
And my friends. You do not really know how much they mean to you until you go away on a trip. The advice, the offer to help, the shower of love and kindness.
Not forgetting the family. Oh, my family makes me laugh. The messages of encouragement. Of reassurance. Of silliness.
Tis been a while since I have been left with my thoughts. And been given an armful of time to do absolutely nothing.
Thank God it is Friday!
Here's to yellow cabs and travelling the long haul.
