Concrete jungle where dreams are made of...

One of my favourite memories of New York was breakfast at Jimmy's Diner in Williamsburg. It was a smallish diner that could fit up 7 tables. There was the option to eat at the bar but we chose to be seated at the tables instead. And so we waited.

It was a brisk cold morning and we were both fairly peckish so we caught a quick taxi ride in. Gene had a very warm and cozy Tommy Hilfiger jacket on and offered for me to snuggle in it as we waited. I could not have been more pleased.

When our names [or mine rather] were called, we were greeted by a waiter who was dressed very hipster-like. In fact, the suburb was well known for its hipsters.

The diner itself had personality. It made one feel comfortable and not out of place. Playing good old school hip hop at the right volume. We immediately warmed up to the place and not long after placed our orders.

What I really enjoyed about travelling with Gene was our share of fascination and enthusiasm for food. And for all things new. We were both not afraid to try out new experiences. We were good planners. We were also [and sometimes to our demise] very courteous to and considerate of each other.

The breakfast at Jimmy's Diner was just what we were looking for. It had healthy and not-so-healthy menu options which were different from what we have back home in Perth. So we chose the largest portions that we could get in the latter option and we dug in.

As all things go, the best food places to go are the ones that are recommended by locals. Hence the reason why we chose to do airbnb. To stay where the locals stay. Literally. It was risky in that we could find ourselves in sketchy neighbourhoods with shocking beds to sleep on.

But with research and persistence, we were fortunate in that our airbnbs were good. Well, 4 out of 5 were good but we made the most of of the awkward 1.

I better stop before I digress. It is hard not to talk about one place without talking about the others.

New York was amazing.

Here's to still topping my list.
